This is an early 1990s Pierre Cardin Prestige label cream double breasted jacket and skirt suit. We love the story behind this interesting and original design - our client modelled for amongst others, Yves Saint Laurent in Paris during the late 80s and 90s and got married in this suit. It is a low cut, double breasted jacket and unusually the pocket is on the right hand side of the suit. It has a beautiful pleated shoulder and is lined in a wonderful quality white silk. This was the most expensive of his ready to wear lines. The buttons are plain white and they remind us of chocolate buttons! The skirt is a simple pencil shape and fastens to the rear with the original zip. The suit is made from a fine quality, woven blend possibly cotton but it could just as well be a very light weight wool. It is labelled a French 40 which equates to a UK 12 or US 8.
On close inspection of the skirt we can see that the skirt has been professionally altered around the waistband. This has been nicely done and has increased the size of the waistband. The jacket remains unaltered and it has that short, boxy loose style typical of the era. The suit is in very good condition overall with the jacket very clean looking and the fabric and lining still crisp. There is some yellowing around the armpits on the silk lining but this cannot be seen from the outside of the jacket.
